FULLERTON, Calif. – Mark Twain called Hawaii "The loveliest fleet of islands that lie anchored in any ocean."  With that, the Cal State Fullerton men's golf team will be jetting off to paradise to compete in the Hoakalei Country Club Invitational in beautiful Ewa Beach, HI. from October 28-30.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played at the par 72, 7,444-yard Hoakalei Country Club. Competitors will play 18-holes Monday through Wednesday.  Teams and individuals will compete for championships.

Participating schools will include host Hawaii, Cal State Fullerton, Abilene Christian, Army-West Point, Cal Poly, Denver, East Tennessee State, Idaho, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisville, Loyola Marymount, Marquette, Mississippi, Missouri, Missouri-Kansas City, Nevada-Reno, New Mexico State, Sam Houston State, University of San Diego and Texas-San Antonio.

Making the trip to the Aloha State will be Jack Dyer, Derek Castillo, Dalton Daniel, Michael Sharkey and Matt Rafter.  Dyer was a tri-medalist at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, and had a top ten finish at the Oregon State Invitational.  Castillo has had two top ten finishes this season.

Asked how he feels the team is doing thus far in the season head coach Jason Drotter candidly replied: "We've had some good individual performances, but as a team we've underachieved.  That's on me.  We're trying to get some of the younger guys some experience.  In doing so, they're in tougher situations than they've ever been before."

The Hoakalei Invitational will be an important test for the Titans, as the fall golf season will conclude after this tournament.  Play will resume again in February.
