PULLMAN, Wash. - Cal State Fullerton sits in a tie for sixth place after the first day of the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate hosted by Washington State at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash.

The Titans shot a collective 19-over 587 on Monday and sit in a tie for sixth place with South Dakota. Fullerton posted a 9-over 293 in the opening round and followed that up with a 10-over 294 in the second and final round of the day. The host Cougars lead the field after posting the only score in the red on Monday, shooting a collective 6-under 562. They lead second-place Utah by 15 strokes after the Utes posted a 9-over 577.

On the individual side, Fullerton was led by Mark Cobey, Matt Wilson and Ty Stites as the trio each carded a 5-over 147 on the par-71 course. Stites and Cobey each posted identical rounds of 76 in the first round and 71 in the second. Wilson posted a 2-over 73 in the opening round while wrapping the day with a 3-over 74 in round two.

All individuals trail Nick Mandell of Washington State after he posted a 5-under 137 on day one. In fact, the Cougars hold the top four spots on the individual leaderboard as Derek Bayley, Nicklaus Chiam and Brian Mogg are all tied for second place after posting a 2-under 140.

The story for the Titans on Monday was the play of their freshmen duo. Along with Stites, fellow first-year Titan Michael Sharkey posted on of the team's top-four qualifying scores. Sharkey rounded out the team scoring with an 8-over 150. He sat at 1-over after the first round but struggled to duplicate that effort in the second round of the day, posting a 7-over 78 in the last round of the day.

But Sharkey and Stites each recorded an eagle on the day as they both holed out in three shots on the par-5 No. 9, both doing so in the first round of the day. It was one of 11 eagles recorded on the day, seven of which came on the 540-yard No. 9.

Senior Martin Manalo was the fifth Titans golfer at the event. He wrapped up day one with a 12-over 154. He posted a 1-over 72 in round one before recording an 11-over 82 in the second.

The Titans will wrap up their first tournament of the 2016-17 season on Tuesday as they are scheduled to play the final 18 holes, with a shotgun start slated for 8 a.m.
