SUGAR GROVE, Ill.- In their first appearance in the NCAA regionals since the program was reinstated in 2009-10, the Cal State Fullerton men's golf team concluded the 2014 Sugar Grove Regionals in 11th place at the Rich Harvest Farms Country Club in Sugar Grove, Ill., on Saturday afternoon. 


While shooting a 21-over-par 309 second round, the Titans stabilized in 11th after chalking up an identical final round of 309 (+21). Fullerton concluded the three-day postseason tournament with a total score of 937 (+73).


Advancing to the NCAA Championships are the top-five teams, second-seeded Illinois (+16, 880), No. 4 UAB (+18, 882), No. 8 Purdue (+30, 894), No. 3 Southern California (+32, 896) and No. 1 California (+32, 896). Taylor Pendrith of Kent State also earns a berth to the championships after clinching the highest finish on a team outside of the top-five on the individual leaderboard with a total score of (70-78-70--218, +2).


Rounding out the top-10 teams are No. 6 Clemson (+34, 898), No. 7 Kent State (+36, 900), No. 12 Jacksonville State (+43, 907), No. 5 UNLV (+48, 912) and No. 13 Cleveland State (+56, 920).


With a total score of 152 (+8) through the first round, senior Mark Anguiano fired a team best third round 6-over-par 78 to conclude the tournament in 34th place after carding a total score 14-over-par 230. The Whittier, Calif., native paced the team with 10 birdies over the 54 hole regional. The Big West Men's Golfer of the Year shot a team-best 71 (-1) in the second round.


Junior Ryan Tetrault showed the most improvement to end the regional, climbing up the ladder seven slots to finish with a total score of 231 (+15) after carding a third round 2-over-par 74. Tetrault finished in 37th place, one of only two Titans to finish within the top-50 overall competitors.


Senior Corey Gard shot a final round of 80 (+8), placing himself in 53rd place with a final total score of 237 (+21). The Villa Park, Calif., native led the Titans with 35 holes in which he struck for par or better.


Fellow CSF senior Scott Rubzin chipped in a third round and personal tournament best 5-over-par 77. Rubzin finished in 66th place, posting a combined score of 244 (+28). Freshman Kyle De Silva, followed his day two score of 23-over-par 167 with a final round of 81 (+9). De Silva rounded out the Titans in 71st place with a final tally of 248 (+32).


According to the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, Fullerton was one of ten top-100 teams in the 14-field regional rated at No. 66. Cal State Fullerton is ranked No. 57 in the nation according to the Golfstat.com NCAA team rankings while competing against a field that featured eight squads ranked higher than the Titans.
