Chad Cordero wrapped up his second season as an undergraduate assistant coach on Rick Vanderhook’s staff in 2016. He assisted mainly with the Titans pitching staff and bullpen.

Cordero pitched for three seasons (2001-03) at Cal State Fullerton and tallied 34 saves in his collegiate career. Cordero went 12-8 and made 111 appearances out of the bullpen with the Titans. He posted a 2.09 career ERA and struck out 212 batters in 176.2 innings pitched. 

In the Titans record book, Cordero is ranked second in saves, total career apperances, strikeouts per nine innings average (10.8), and fourth in ERA.  

Cordero earned All-American honors 2001 and 2003 and was ninth Titan ever drafted in the first round, taken by the Montreal Expos with the 20th overall pick in the 2003 MLB Draft. 

Cordero went on to pitch seven seasons in the Majors, six of them with the Montreal/Washington Nationals organization. Cordero played in the College World Series in June of 2013 and made his MLB debut just two months later on Aug. 30 with the Expos.

He became the first Titan to ever garner a Cy Young Award vote and finished fifth in the voting in 2005 after leading the Majors in saves with 47. He also became the first Titan to ever reach the 20, 30, and 40-save plateaus and lead the MLB in a major statistical category.

In 2005, he won the NL Rolaids Relief Man of the Year Award and was also selected to the National League All-Star Team. Cordero was also the last Expos pitcher to pitch in Montreal’s Olympic Stadium before the team moved to Washington D.C. He pitched the top of the ninth inning against the Florida Marlins on Sept. 29, 2004, striking out two of the four batters he faced in a 9-1 loss.

Overall, Cordero went 20-15 in 314 games in the MLB and tallied 128 saves. He posted a 2.89 ERA in 330.1 innings pitched. He alowed 27 hits, walked 122 and struck out 298 batters.
