SUMMER 2014
Spent the summer with the USA Collegiate National Team, which
finished the summer with a record of 18-8-2... Made four starts and
eight appearances for Team USA, compiling a 2-1 record with a 1.35
ERA, the fourth best on the team amongst pitchers who made at least
four starts... Allowed four earned runs on 16 hits in 26 and 2/3
innings pitched... Finished third on the team with 27 strikeouts
while issuing seven walks and allowed batters to hit just
.178.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2014)
On May 23, became the fourth Fullerton pitcher to toss a no-hitter
and the first since Kirk Saarloos in 2001 as Garza struck out a
career-high 12 Cal State Northridge players and issued just three
walks, tossing his first career complete game in the process... Was
named the Big West Pitcher of the Week on May 26 thanks to his
no-hitter... Finished the year with a 5-4 record and 3.22 ERA...
Made 11 starts an tossed 72 and 2/3 innings, striking out 60 while
issuing 14 walks and allowed opponents to bat .252 against him...
In conference, went 3-2 with a 2.55 ERA and struck out 30 batters
while walking 10 and surrendering a .227 opponents batting
average... Also struck out 12 batters in a 11-0 victory over San
Francisco on Feb. 22... Allowed 1.73 walks per nine innings,
ranking 10th in the Big West Conference. Also ranked fifth in the
conference with a 4.29 strikeout-to-walk ratio... Made his first
career relief appearance against UC Santa Barbara on Apr. 11 after
missing a month with a shoulder injury.
AS A FRESHMAN (2013)
Cal State Fullerton’s Saturday night starter, finished the
season with an undefeated record of 12-0 in 17 starts as the Titans
finished the year with a 16-1 record when Garza was on the
mound…awards included ABCA Rawlings All-American (second
team), ABCA/Rawlings all-West Region, Baseball America All-American
(second team), Baseball America Freshman All-American (first team),
Louisville Slugger All-American (second team), Louisville Slugger
Freshman All-American, NCBWA All-American (second team), NCBWA
Freshman All-American, Fullerton Regional MVP, Big West Pitcher of
the Year, Big West Conference First Team, Big West Pitcher of the
Week (03/11) and College Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Year
Semifinalist…completed his rookie campaign with a 2.03 ERA
(50th country, third Big West) pitching in five combined
shutout victories…tossed 115 innings, allowing just 26
earned runs while striking out a team-best 95 and issuing only 17
walks…held opposing batters to a .205 clip…WHIP
(0.88) ranked sixth in the country…his other numbers to rank
in the top 50 of the country: strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.59,
27th), walks allowed per 9.0 innings (1.33,
32nd) and hits allowed per 9.0 innings (6.57,
42nd)…in Big West games finished with a record of
6-0 in nine starts, striking out 48 in 59 innings of
work…1.000 winning percentage (12-0) not only set the
Fullerton freshman record, but he is one of just four pitchers in
Cal State Fullerton history with at least 12 wins and no
losses….12 wins ties him with Thomas Eshelman for the
Fullerton freshman record...finished the season with 13 quality
starts…in first career start vs. Nebraska tossed six shutout
innings while striking out six and allowing just two hits in 9-0
win (02/16)…was named Big West Pitcher of the Week after
handcuffing Texas A&M to the tune of seven shutout innings in a
2-0 victory over the Aggies, which evened the weekend series
(03/09)…in series-clinching win at Oral Roberts, tossed
eight shutout innings and struck out nine in a 6-2 victory
(03/16)…tossed eight shutout innings at Hawai’i in a
5-0 victory (04/27)…in series-clinching 2-1 win vs. Long
Beach State allowed just one run in eight innings (05/04)…in
first career postseason start, tossed eight and 1/3 shutout innings
while matching a career high with nine strikeouts in a 1-0 win over
Arizona State in the second game of the Fullerton Regional
(06/01).

Selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 26th round (803
overall) of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
HIGH SCHOOL
A 2012 graduate of Bonita HS in La Verne, Calif. •
Played three years on the varsity squad for head coach John Knott
• As a senior in 2012, finished the year with a 12-1 record,
0.72 ERA and 101 strikeouts in 88 innings pitched while also
batting .391 • Was named to the Max Preps and Baseball America
All-American teams, respectively • Was also named the CIF
Southern Section Division III, the Inland Valley Bulletin and the
San Gabriel Valley Player of the Year, respectively • Was
named to the Max Preps all-state team, and was named to the Los
Angeles Times All-Southland team • Led Bonita HS to the CIF
Southern Section Division III championship with a 5-1 win over
Alhambra • The Bearcats finished season 32-2, and won the
Hacienda League championship • As a junior in 2011, also
received first team all-CIF, all-state and all-league honors •
Played for the 2011 Milwaukee Brewers Area Code Team.
