Joe Sponsel is in his first season (2017-18) as a volunteer assistant coach for the Cal State Fullerton cross country and track and field program.

His responsibilities include assisting with setup and timing of practice, the production of home meets, and assisting in the organization of the team during away meets. In addition, Sponsel works with Fullerton’s steeplechase competitors.

He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, in 2014, and is currently in the kinesiology master’s program at Cal State Fullerton with a concentration in sports psychology.

Previously, Sponsel served as a volunteer assistant coach at Southwestern University for a year.

He played soccer for three seasons, ran track for two seasons, and ran cross country for one year during his time at Southwestern University.
