Huerta Breaks Own School Record in 1,500-Meter Race

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton track and field had a school record broken for the second straight day this weekend when Samantha Huerta set a new CSF record at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday night. Iesha Hamm broke the high jump school record at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday.

At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Huerta posted a personal-best time of 4:25.16 to break her previous school record of 4:26.18 (mile converted). It is the second-best mark in the conference this year. Sandra Flores also ran the 1,500-meter race and clocked a personal-best time of 4:33.89. Chris Malloy clocked a 1,500-meter time of 4:00.11 on the men's side.

At the Mt. SAC Relays, Edwin Matthews won the men's high jump competition with a season-best clearance of 6-10.25 (2.09m). Anthony Applequist was fourth in the open triple jump competition with a mark of 50-4.75 (15.36m, -2.2 wind), just off his personal best of 15.38m. In the women's high jump, Adrianna Reagan cleared 5-4.25 (1.63m) to take eighth place.

Kiana Clay posted a season-best time of 54.64 in the 400 meters to take 11th place in the open section. India Owens' time of 63.13 in the 400-meter hurdles was good for 27th place in the open section and Tyler Hardge was 33rd at 64.30.

Thaddeus Smith finished in fourth place in the open 200-meter sprint with a time of 21.23 (+0.6 wind) and Luis Matos clocked a time of 21.86 (-2.3 wind). Matos (10.64) and Smith (10.74) also ran the 100-meter sprint. Marcel Espinoza's time of 47.76 was good for ninth place in the 400-meter race.

Diego Courbis made his season-debut in the 400-meter hurdles and clocked a time of 54.14 to take 18th place in the open section. Mason Guzman-Sanchez took 10th place in the open 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.52 (+1.2 wind). Sam Schubert finished in 16th place at 14.84 and Charles Kelly was 23rd with a time of 15.10.

Alysse McMillen cleared 11-9.75 (3.60m) to take fourth place in the women's open pole vault. Shelby Noble was sixth at 11-3.75 (3.45m). Ryan Polakiewicz was ninth in the men's open pole vault with a clearance of 15-7 (4.75m).

Patrick Ng had a toss of 49-8.25 (15.14m) to take 10th place in the men's open shot put competition. Sinai Fatafehi was 12 in the women's open shot put with a toss of 40-11 (12.47m).
