House Clocks Quick 100-Meter Time at RCC Quad Meet

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's and women's track and field opened up the outdoor season at the Riverside City College Quad Meet on Saturday featuring RCC, CSF, Pepperdine and UC Riverside.

"Overall, it was a good way to start the season," head coach John Elders said. "We're very excited about both squads and what we can accomplish this year. This was a good way to get it started."

Rasaun House clocked a wind-aided time of 10.44 in the 100 meter-dash to take second place overall. House then finished in second place in the 200 meters with a time of 21.49. Thaddeus Smith took second place in the 400 meters with a time of 49.95.

The quartet of Luis Matos, House, Kasey Cory and Smith took second place in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 40.74. Alex Perez, Brandon Hasson, Tristan Griffith and Gino Long won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:14.51.

"I think with the men's sprints squads, both relays opened up real strong," Elders said. "Rasaun House had a big time in the 100 meters and so he's basically already good for the NCAA West Preliminaries, so that's pretty cool."

Tatiana Bell and Alayah Byers went 1-2 in the 100 meters with times of 12.11 and 12.22. Bell also won the 200 meters at 25.28. Mia Franco took second place in the 400 meters with a time of 59.45 and Genevieve Dominguez took fourth place at 59.94. Kiana Clay, who is traditionally a 400-meter runner, won the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.46.

Jacob Smith won the 1,500-meter race with a time of 3:56.59. Danny Ramirez (4:01.20) and Jorge Sanchez (4:03.52) took third and fourth place, respectively, in the 1,500 meters as well.

Mason Guzman-Sanchez had his best season-opening time of his career at 14.52 to earn a win in the 110-meter hurdles. Charles Kelly made his collegiate debut in the event with a time of 14.87 in second place and Sam Schubert took third at 14.93. Kelly also won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.50.

"The hurdle races weren't clean by any of our guys," Elders said. "But, they still were able to record good times and have strong finishes so that's a good sign going forward."

Sandra Flores won the 3K with a time of 10:34.46. Bryn Williamson won the pole vault with a clearance of 11-5.25 (3.49m).

Sierra Valdivieso took second place in the hammer with a toss of 147-5 (44.94m) in her first time ever throwing the hammer. On the men's side, Adam Leiva made his collegiate debut and took fifth place in the hammer (135-4/41.26m) and fifth in the shot put (45-3/13.79m). Patrick Ng's toss of 48-9 (14.86m) in the shot put, good for third place overall.

Dwayne Lee, who is transitioning to the decathlon this year, had a good day with a time of 15.32 in the 110-meter hurdles, 10-5.5 (3.19m) in the pole vault and 42-10.75 (13.07m) in the shot put.

The Titans return to the track on March 9-10 to host the Ben Brown Invitational at Titan Track Complex.
