RIVERSIDE --- The Cal State Fullerton men's and women's outdoor track and field program started the season with 14 first-place finishes at the Riverside Community College, UC Riverside, Pepperdine, Cal State Fullerton Quad Meet held at RCC on Saturday.

Redshirt junior Bryn Williamson was the sole Titan to set a new record as her mark of 3.93 meters in the pole vault was not only good for a first-place finish, but broke the program record, besting Jennifer Clarke's mark of 3.92 meters from 2003.

"This was a really positive start to our season," head coach John Elders said. "We are not 100 percent healthy or at full strength yet, but this is something we can build on, and I am optimistic about our season. We had great energy from the team today, and it's going to be a fun year."

Junior Luis Matos was a triple winner in the 100 meters (10.56), 200 meters (21.56) as well as being a part of the 4x100 meter relay team along with Ryan Wade, Kasey Cory and Chaz Harmon as the team finished with a time of 41.83. Teammate Mason Rollins was on his heels, finishing second in the 100 meters (10.71) – a new personal record for the junior – as well as posting a second-place finish in the 200 meters (21.81).

In the men's 400 meters, the Titans swept the podium as Thaddeus Smith finished first (48.93), followed by Chaz Harmon (49.33) and Tommy Medina (49.84).

Junior Mason Guzman-Sanchez won the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 14.67 seconds while freshman Sam Schubert finished third (15.31).

After battling a hamstring injury last season, Dwayne Lee returned with a mark of 7.15 meters in the long jump to place first, while Malik Johnson, who missed all of last year with a shoulder injury, won the high jump with a mark of 2.05 meters. The Titans actually swept the high jump as junior Edwin Matthews placed second (1.95 m) and freshman Jahni Newhauser (1.90 m) finished third.

On the women's side, Fanny Giron's time of 56.50 seconds in the 400 meters was good for first place, while freshman Mia Franco finished third (58.58).

Sophomore Zuri Henderson clocked a time of 2:21.34 in the 800 meters to take first place, while freshman Tammy Vien's time of 14.74 in the 100-meter hurdles was also good for first.

Ty'Jalayah Robertson's mark of 1.67 meters led the high jump contingent, while the senior also placed first in the long jump at 5.16 meters, followed by junior Laura Hamann (5.11).

Freshman Bertha Sola placed first in the discus throw with a toss of 41.95 meters, while she finished third in the shot put at 11.60 meters. Freshman Ciera Williams was second in the shot put at 11.63 meters.

The Titans return to action on Friday and Saturday, hosting the Ben Brown Invitational at Titan Track Complex.
