FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton outdoor track and field team returns to Fullerton for their first home meet of the season, hosting the Ben Brown Invitational on Friday, Mar. 11 and Saturday, Mar. 12.
This will be the 17th straight year that the Titan track and field team has hosted the Ben Brown Invitational since it's inaugural meet back in 1999.
The meet will feature athletes from over 20 different programs and will begin on Friday with the hammer throw and javelin.
The meet will continue on to Saturday with the first event beginning at 9:30am and finishing with the Distance Carnival going later into the night.
The Titans return to the Titan Track for their first home meet of the season after a dominant performance in their opening weekend at Riverside Community College.
Last weekend the Titans came home winners of 16 different events highlighted by the men's sprints and hurdles squad.
Freshman Thaddeus Smith comes off of winning the 100m and 200m dash last weekend while also running a leg in the winning 4x100m relay to earn the first Big West Athlete of the Week honors of his career.
The men's hurdle squad also saw tremendous success last weekend as Aneesh Joshi and Mason Guzman-Sanchez came in first and second in the 110m hurdles, respectively along with Nick Reynolds and Diego Courbis also landing a 1,2 punch in the 400m hurdles.
The women's sprint squad also came home winners last weekend as they were led by junior Janaya Shorty who also earned Big West Athlete of the Week honors after winning the 100m and 200m dash.
Morgan Love had a big performance in the 400m dash taking home first place with her time of 57.72 while the quartet of Alayah Byers, Tyler Hardge, Alexis Stewart and Jade Lewis dominated the field in the 4x100m relay with their time of 46.80.
The field team returns after both Jacob Ruiz and Siena Morgan swept the Pole Vault at the 4-Way RCC Invitational with their heights of 4.90m and 3.20m respectively.
Jessica Flores also came out strong in the first meet of the year after ending the indoor season on a high note taking home first place in the hammer throw with her distance of 55.05m.
The Titans were rounded out with Ifunanya Gwacham and Edwin Matthews both sweeping the javelin throw.
