Women's Indoor Track and Field Heads to Seattle for UW Invitational

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's indoor track and field will compete against some of the top teams in the nation at the UW Invitational this weekend. Competition on Friday at Washington's Dempsey Indoor at 1 p.m. PT and on Saturday at 9 a.m. PT.

In addition to the host Washington Huskies, the Titans will compete against Arizona, California, Oregon State, Stanford (W: No. 21 UC Irvine, Hawai'i, Portland, UC Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Boise State and many others.

Eleven Titans are set to compete this weekend, including seven distance runners that will be making their season debuts at a meet that has always had quality distance races throughout the years.

CSF will also compete at Dempsey Indoor for the Husky Classic (Feb. 9-10) and the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championships (Feb. 23-24).

Last weekend at the Lumberjack Team Challenge, Mia Franco ran the 400 meters in 59.62 and ran the third leg on the women's 4x400-meter relay. Fanny Giron also ran on the 4x400-meter relay squad and ran the 800 meters in 2:26.85. Jordan Agnew, a pentathlete, competed in four events and posted personal-best marks in the long jump (16-10.75/5.75m), shot put (32-3/9.83m) and 60-meter hurdles (9.91). Iesha Hamm won the high jump with a mark of 5-7 (1.70m) and also competed in the 60-meter hurdles (9.85) and long jump (16-8.75/5.10m).

For the distance runners, Sam Huerta and Wendi Leos are coming off two strong cross country seasons in the fall of 2017. Leos was the first or second Titan finisher in each race during the season while Huerta was first or second in all but one race. Sandra Flores and Trinity Ruelas were consistently in the top five scorers for CSF and helped the team to a third-place finish at the Big West Championships. Gabrielle De La Rosa hit her stride at the end of the XC season, scoring for the Titans at both the conference champions and NCAA West Regional. 

As the 2018 season gets underway, cross country and track and field head coach John Elders enters his 30th season at the helm of each program making him the longest tenured head coach in the history of Cal State Fullerton. Cal State Fullerton won the 2017 Big West Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the first conference title in program history.
