Season Starts Saturday at Lumberjack Team Challenge


FULLERTON, Calif. --- The Cal State Fullerton indoor track and field team will begin its 2017 season at the Lumberjack Team Challenge hosted by Northern Arizona a Walkup Skydome on Saturday.

THE FIELD: Schools competing along with Cal State Fullerton at the Lumberjack Team Challenge include host Northern Arizona, fellow Big West Conference members UC Irvine and UC Riverside as well as CSU Bakersfield, Grand Canyon, Southern Utah and UNLV.

RESULTS: Results will be available via Wingfoot Finish. 

A LOOK AT THE 2017 SQUAD & ENTRY LIST:
Cal State Fullerton welcomes back 22 members from last year's squad in addition to 16 newcomers.

Pole Vault:
Arielle Bray & Shelby Noble – both Bray and Noble will be competing for the Titans for the first time

Long Jump:
Jordan Agnew, Ifunanya Gwacham, Laura Hamann, Brooke Hardge, Onyx Gaston, Naiah Boardingham – Hamann and Gaston each produced a top-10 finish last season competing in the long jump.

High Jump:
Jordan Agnew, Ifunanya Gwacham, Adrianna Reagan, Ty'Jalayah Robertson – twice Robertson finished in the top-10 of the high jump including a third-place finish at the 2016 NAU Friday Night Duals with a height of 1.65 meters.

Shot Put:
Jordan Agnew, Bertha Sola, Breanne Monrroy, Ciera Williams – each will be competing for the Titans for the first time.

Triple Jump:
Onyx Gaston, Laura Hamann – both are returning to compete for the Titans in this event.

Weight Throw:
Kelsey McKelvey, Breanne Monrroy, Ciera Williams, Bertha Sola – last season, McKelvey placed 18th at the NAU Friday Night Duals with a throw of 11.01 meters.

60 Meter Dash: Laura Hamann, Brooke Hardge, Alayah Byers, Tyler Hardge, Naiah Boardingham, Kyra Anderson , Jade Lewis, Tatiana Bell, Onyx Gaston  - Gaston's time of 7.88 from last year's NAU Friday Night Duals is the fastest returning time for the Titans in 2017.

400 Meter Dash: Brisa Guzman-Sanchez, Mia Franco, Fanny Giron, Kiana Clay, Morgan Love, Zuri Henderson - Henderson posted four of Fullerton's top-five times in the 400-meter dash in 2016.

60 Meter Hurdles: Brisa Guzman-Sanchez, Ifunanya Gwacham, Jordan AgnewTammy Vien, Tyler Hardge, Kyra Anderson  Anderson's time of 8.77 was good for a third-place finish at the 2016 NAU Friday Night Duals.

200 Meter Dash: Sarah Perez, Alayah Byers, Tatiana Bell, Jade Lewis – Lewis' time of 25.71 from the 2016 UW Invitational is the top returning time in 2017.

4x400 Meter Relay: Team A  (Zuri Henderson, Morgan Love, Fanny Giron, Kiana Clay), Team B (Tyler Hardge, India Owens, Mia Franco, Chanel Rogers) – last season, Owens, Love, Henderson and Hardge set a new school record with a time of 3:47.95 at the 2016 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships.

LONGEST-TENURED COACH: As the 2017 season gets underway, cross country and track and field head coach John Elders enters his 29th season at the helm of each program making him the longest tenured head coach in the history of Cal State Fullerton.

Elders was tied with former fencing head coach Heizaburo Okawa (1982-2006) and former men's soccer coach Al Mistri (1981-2005) for 25 years of service at Fullerton. The Orange County native is coach of cross country, women's indoor track and field, and men's and women's outdoor track and field.

UP NEXT: The Titans travel to Seattle for the UW Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 27-28.
