Chris Witscher enters his sixth season (2018-19) with the Cal State Fullerton track and field program as an assistant coach after joining the Titan staff during the 2013-14 academic year to take over the throws program.
During his five years thus far at Cal State Fullerton several Titan records have been broken. Nicole Clark threw 156-9 (47.77m) in 2018 to set a new school record in the women's javelin. Also in 2018, Corey Gilbert had a discus toss of 184-0 (56.09m) to set a CSF record. Trevor Gorwin set school records in the shot put (60-9.25/18.52m) and hammer throw (202-10/61.82m) during the 2017 season. In 2016, Steven Parsons' throw of 58.60 meters in the hammer set a then-CSF record, while on the women's side in outdoor, Kelsey McKelvey's javelin throw of 41.26 meters was a new Titan best in 2016 as well as Jessica Flores' hammer throw of 59.87 meters in 2015.
On the academic side, Samantha Huerta (2018), Aneesh Joshi (2016), Nick Reynolds (2016), Joshua Gordon (2015) and Katie Wilson (2014) were named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team.
Gordon went on to be named the Big West Scholar Athlete of the Year (2014-15), marking just the fourth time a student-athlete from men's outdoor track and field has earned the award.
A total of 84 student-athletes from the women's indoor track and field and men's and women's outdoor track and field programs were named to their respective conference all-academic teams over the last five years.
A Corona, Calif. native, Witscher started his coaching career at Occidental College in Eagle Rock, Calif. (2008-2012) before moving on to the Division I level at Cal State Fullerton.
In his five years at Occidental, Witscher’s student-athletes set five school records, broke one Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record in women’s shot put, earned four All-American honors, won four conference championships, and one was named West Regional Athlete of the Year.
Witscher was a four-year letter-winner at Fresno State, a four-time all-Western Athletic Conference performer and hit the NCAA qualifying mark in both the hammer and discus in 2007 and 2008.
He graduated from Fresno State with bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. Witscher furthered his education at Long Beach State with a Master of Science in sport and exercise psychology and student-athlete development.
