Titans' First Postseason to Begin in Palo Alto

Nov. 28, 2010

Stanford Region Tournament Central

Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton will be on the road for its inaugural postseason appearance and match up with Colorado State in the first round of the NCAA Div. Volleyball Championships to be held Dec. 3 at the Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto, Calif.

The winner of the Fullerton-Colorado State match will square off with the other half of the bracket in host-university Stanford - the No. 3 team in the tournament - or the University of Albany in the second round on Dec. 4.

Preliminary times for the first round have the Titans and Rams playing the 4:30 p.m. match and the Cardinal and Great Danes playing at 7 p.m. Times are subject to change.

The Titans (25-6, 14-2) are in the tournament by virtue of winning the Big West Conference title for the first time in school history, earning the league's automatic berth.

"This is what we've prepared for all year long," said Big West Coach of the Year Carolyn Zimmerman.

"We are very excited to be a part of all of this - pleased with all the opportunities this creates for our players and our program. To get to play Colorado State - and not have to play them in Colorado - and travel to Stanford with all of its history, it is just a great opportunity for our athletes," said the ninth-year head coach.

The Titans (No. 25 in the Nov. 22 AVCA Coaches Poll) will have their work cut out for them as all four of the teams in the bracket are conference champions. Colorado State (No. 15 in the AVCA poll) are 25-4 overall and finished their Mountain West Conference at 14-2.

Albany has won five of the last seven American East Conference titles and finished the 2010 regular season at 22-8 and 10-2 in league.

The Pac-10 champion Stanford (24-3, 15-3) is one of the most illustrious programs in the sport and has won the last five league titles. The Cardinal are six-time national champions and have played in all 30 of the NCAA Div. I postseason tournaments. They are also veterans of 19 semifinals and 15 national title matches. They are ranked No. 4 in the nation as of Nov. 22 by the AVCA Coaches.

Should the Titans advance past the first/second rounds, they will travel to Dayton, Ohio, for the Dayton Regional on Dec. 10-11, then on to the semifinals and national championship matches at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo., Dec. 16-18. Ticket information for this week's event will be released as soon as it becomes available. Check back in at fullertontitans.com for the most up to date information regarding the event.
