Indianapolis, IN - The new Cal State Fullerton men's and women's golf programs each recorded perfect Academic Progress Rate scores of 1000 for their debut 2009-10 seasons and 12 of the other 15 Titan sports showed improvement in their multi-year APR rates in data released today by the NCAA.

Women's volleyball, women's cross country and softball also scored 1000 on their 2009-10 APR.

Sports showing multi-year rate gains were wrestling (+41 points), men's soccer (+33), softball and men's track (both +23), women's cross country (+17), men's cross country (+15), women's volleyball and women's soccer (both +9), women's outdoor track and field (+8), women's tennis (+6), women's basketball (+4) and women's indoor track and field (+2). Sports with lowered multi-year scores were men's basketball (-40), women's gymnastics (-8) and baseball (-3).

This is the seventh year of reports on the APR, which is a measurement seeking improvement of the eligibility and retention of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team. Programs that fall below a multi-year score of 925 can be penalized with the loss of scholarships, practice time and/or post-season competition.

The multi-year rate is an average of the four most recent years. A point is lost for each student-athlete that leaves a program before exhausting his or her eligibility and the point is doubled if that student-athlete is not eligible at the time of departure.

Men's basketball was most adversely affected by the transfer of two underclassmen who had fallen below minimum academic standards. The program will lose two scholarships.

Baseball's multi-year rate went from 931 to 928 despite a 2009-10 score of 939. The net drop is the result of the 939 score replacing a higher score from 2005-06 in the calculations. The women's gymnastics' picture was similar: the multi-year rate dropped from 975 to 967 despite a 2009-10 score of 979.
