Fullerton Wins Its 20th, Downs Davis, 3-0

Davis, Calif. - Visiting Cal State Fullerton (20-5, 9-2) defeated UC Davis (16-9, 7-5) behind a double-double from senior outside hitter Erin Saddler to keep its 1-game hold on first place over Long Beach State, Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara.

The Titans, winners of 16 of their last 18, swept the season series with the Aggies by defeating them Friday night, 25-22, 25-16, 25-22 at the Pavilion. Seventeen of the Titans' school record 20 wins have come by 3-0 sweeps of their opponents.

The Aggies fall 2.5 games behind in the conference standings with the loss. Second place Long Beach posted a four-set victory over Pacific on Friday while other second place teams were idle.

The Titans hit .203 on the night while leading hitter Saddler posted a match high 12 kills and hit .200 to lead the team offensively. Sophomore Kayla Neto had 9 kills and 3 blocks while junior Leah Maurer contributed with 8 kills and 4 blocks.

Davis' offensive leader was Allison Whitson. The sophomore had 10 kills in 37 attacks and hit just .108. Her Aggies hit jut .150 on the night.

Katie Denny was the big blocker for Davis, posting 5 block assists to lead all players. Whitson added 4 including 2 solos.

Fullerton got 4 kills from Saddler and Maurer, 3 blocks from Torrie Brown, and a whopping 10 digs from libber Cami Croteau in set No. 1, but settled down for more of a well-rounded team effort the rest of the way.

Croteau finished with a tie for the match high in digs with 17 scoops, moving her to within 95 digs of the Big West Conference career dig record. Croteau now has 2,037 career digs and trails only Kristin Jackson (Cal Poly) for the top spot.

Saddler also had 12 digs to give her a double-double for the 7th time this year. The senior also added a pair of service aces to the cause. Setter Andrea Ragan also had two aces while picking up 34 of the Titans' 36 assists in the win.

Davis' Jenny Woolway had 17 digs to lead the Aggies, while Kayla Varney and Kaitlin Plum combined for 26 more.

The Titans will travel to Stockton on Saturday to take on the Tigers of Pacific. The Tigers are 16-9 overall and 7-5 in the Big West, 2 games behind the Titans. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. following senior night festivities.
