Titan Errors Prove Costly in 3-0 Loss to 49ers

Long Beach, Calif. - Brittney Herzog, Caitlin Ledoux and Naomi Washington combined for 28 of Long Beach State's 37 kills as the 49ers swept Cal State Fullerton in three straight sets, 25-17, 28-26, 25-17, Saturday night in Big West Conference volleyball action at The Pyramid.

Fullerton drops its second straight match and falls to 12-9 overall and 3-5 in league play. It was the 55th straight loss to the 49ers, who hold a 55-4 all-time record over the TItans dating back to 1982. Long Beach improves to 13-5, 6-2 in sweeping the season series from Fullerton.

The Titans committed 23 attack errors, 12 serving errors, and six receiving errors which proved costly as the 49ers committed 18 fewer miscues on the night in the statistically tight match.

Herzog was the leader on the floor with with just 10 kills while posting a match-high .296 attack percentage. Ledoux had nine kills, 12 digs and a block while Washington drove home nine kills over her own while adding a pair of block assists.

The Titans, who were out-hit .185 to .128, were led by sophomore Torrie Brown who collected nine kills for the visitors, but committed a team high eight errors from the floor. Freshman Kayla Neto, junior Erin Saddler and senior Alex Wolnisy each had eight kills apiece.

Fullerton out-blocked the home team 10.0 to 9.5 and was led by Neto who stuffed a match high five blocks in the loss. Setter Andrea Ragan, middle Wolnisty and jitter Jennifer Edmond each had a pair of blocks at the net.

Michelle Osunbor and Jocelyn Neely had four blocks for Long Beach State.

Junior Cami Croteau had 19 digs for Fullerton trailing 49er libber Lauren Minkle who posted a match-high 23.

Fullerton will return to the floor next Friday and Saturday in the Central Coast. The Titans will visit UC Santa Barbara on Friday (7pm) and Cal Poly on Halloween in San Luis Obispo (7 pm).
