Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton snapped a season-high five-game losing streak with a 3-0 (30-23, 30-27, 30-22) victory over UC Irvine Saturday night at Titan Gym.
The Titans earned their first win since Sept. 28, improving their record to 14-7 overall and 3-5 in Big West Conference play. UC Irvine, a night after picking up its first conference win, drops to 1-5 in league play and 6-14 on the year.
The Titans hit .333 in game one, besting the Anteaters (.104) behind Breanna Trudeau's six kills in 10 attempts, never relinquishing the lead. McCall Miller hit .400 (four kills) for Irvine.
In game two, Fullerton shot out to a 16-11 lead but Irvine chipped away and caught up at 20-20 on a service error by Trudeau. The Anteaters would pass the Titans and hold the lead for the next eleven serves. Fullerton tied the game at 26-26, and would score on four of the next five tries. Brittany Moore led the Titans in the second game with six kills.
In the match-clinching game, The Titans would lead wire-to-wire, hitting a match-high .432.
Three Titans finished in double-digits in kills, with fresman Deven Bukoski leading the way with 13. Bukoski earned her tenth double-double of the year as she scooped 10 digs as well. Brittany Moore hit a season-high .688 in the match and and tied Trudeau with 11 kills.
Kristin Kelly hit a team best .474 posting a team-high 12 kills for UC Irvine.
Cal State Fullerton out-blocked Irvine 10-2 with Alex Wolnisty and Julie Geissert leading all players with four blocks, including one solo each.
Fullerton earns is eighth sweep of the season and first since Sept. 28 versus UC Riverside. Cal State Fullerton needs just one more victory to insure their first winning season since 1996.
The Titans return to action next week as they hit the road for a match at UC Davis on Thursday, Oct. 26. The non-conference match will begin at 7 p.m. Fullerton returns home for the first of their final three home matches against Pacific on Saturday, Oct. 28, also at 7 p.m.
