Titans Drop Third Straight, 3-0 to No. 20 Cal Poly

San Luis Obispo, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton volleyball team dropped its third match in a row as No. 20 Cal Poly won three straight games to beat the Titans 30-22, 20-21, 30-26 in a Big West Conference Match at Mott Gym in San Luis Obispo Saturday night.

Fullerton had not dropped more than two games in a row since late October of last season. With the loss the Titans fall to 13-5 overall and 2-3 in league play. Cal Poly remains unbeaten in league at 5-0 improving to 13-4 overall.

The leagues best hitter, Kylie Atherstone, hit .342 with a match-high 17 kills to lead the Mustangs to victory. The sophomore also picked up six block assists, five digs and a service ace.

Cal Poly held the Titans to just a .099 attack percentage on the night, out-blocking the visitors 14.5-7 as a team. Jacyln Houston blocked a match-high nine attack attempts with Atherstone and Chelsea Hayes each adding six. Freshman middle blocker Alex Wolnisty picked up a career-high five block assists to lead the Titans.

Kristin Jackson tallied a game-high 21 digs for Cal Poly with her teammate Hays joining her in double-digits with 15.

Titan Freshman Deven Bukoski earned her team-leading eighth double-double of the season, collecting a team-high 10 kills and 17 digs. Libero Vanessa Vella returned to the floor after a night off on Friday to tie Bukoski with 17 digs in the losing effort.

The Titans return to the floor for one game next week on Friday, Oct. 13, as they will take on Cal State Northridge at Titan Gym. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
