Vanessa Williams will serve as the Titans' administrative
assistant in 2012 and will handle numerous behind-the-scenes tasks
dealing with travel, community service, on-campus recruiting trips
and statistics.
She joins Head Coach Carolyn Zimmerman's staff following a
10-month stint (Aug. 2010 to May 2011) with the Brondby Volleyball
Klub (Brondby, Denmark) as a professional volleyball player.
While competing overseas, she also served as a team ambassador,
making community appearances and mentoring 11- to 14-year old
girls.
As the team's middle blocker, Williams helped lead Brondby to a
first-place finish in its league as well as a gold medal finish in
the playoffs. She finished first in the league in serving, blocking
and hitting en route to receiving the Time Vision Player of the
Year Award.
In 2009, Williams moved from playing with Cal Poly Pomona to the
coaching ranks. She served as Head Coach Rosie Wegrich's volunteer
assistant, helping tutor the Bronco middle blockers.
She has been coaching at the club level since graduating from
Rubidoux High School (Riverside, Calif.) in 2005, but has most
recently served as a coach and administrative assistant at the San
Gabriel Elite Volleyball Club (Pasadena, Calif.) since 2008.
Williams was a four-year letterwinner at Cal Poly Pomona from
2005-2008 for Coach Wegrich and her staff (which included current
Titan Assistant Coach Vinh Nguyen).
She earned All-American status in 2008 as a senior while helping
the Broncos to a 20-8 overall record and a national Top 25 finish.
It was the most successful season Cal Poly Pomona has seen in over
10 years and ended in the NCAA (Div. II) Pacific Regional
Final.
Williams, 24, graduated from Cal Poly Pomona in 2009 with a
degree in English literature and language.
She currently resides in Riverside, Calif.
