SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball fell in straight sets (23-25, 23-25, 21-25) Saturday to San Jose State in its final match of the Hornet Invitational.

Aubrey Beaver led the Titans with nine kills, all of which she tallied in the first two sets, while hitting at a .261 percentage. Bianca Martinez notched eight kills on a team-best .438 cliip to go with three blocks, while Lyla Traylor added seven kills and 11 digs. Ryleigh Garis had a double-double with 23 assists and 11 digs to go with three blocks.

Traylor was named an All-Tournament selection at the conclusion of the two-day event.

As a team, Fullerton hit at a .151 percentage to the Spartans' .213 clip but out-blocked San Jose State 11-6. The loss moves the Titans to 0-6 on the season.

Teams traded points from the get go, with kills by Martinez and Traylor tying the first set at eight. Fullerton used a 3-0 run to later go up 19-18, with Garis recording an ace and Beaver and Aaliyah Fasavalu notching a block. After falling behind 24-21, an Ameena Campbell kill fueled a 2-0 Titan run, but a Spartan kill gave them the set, 25-23.

Fullerton enjoyed a 13-10 lead in set two following back-to-back blocks from Campbell and a Beaver kill. San Jose State used a 6-1 run to take a 17-16 advantage before back-to-back Titan blocks gave Fullerton back the lead. A pair of aces by Traylor later put the Titans up 22-21, and a Spartan attack error gave Fullerton a 23-22 advantage. But San Jose State scored three straight to take set two, 25-23.

In set number three, the Titans jumped to an 11-6 lead with a Martinez kill and block from Fasavalu and Garis. But the Spartans fought back to take a 19-14 advantage. Fullerton hung around, with a pair of kills by Traylor bringing the Titans within two, 23-21. San Jose State, though, closed out the match with a 25-21 set win.

Up next, the Titans host American University for their home opener on Friday, Sept. 8, at 5:00 p.m. PT. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
