PORTLAND, Ore. — Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball fell in straight sets (13-25, 18-25, 14-25) Saturday afternoon at Portland State in its second matchup of the Hotel Vance Rose City Showdown.

Lyla Traylor paced the Titans with seven kills, seven digs and a service ace, while Bianca Martinez had five kills on a .500 clip and a pair of blocks. Ryleigh Garis added 19 assists to go with a pair of dump kills.

As a team, Fullerton tallied a .055 hitting percentage on the match to Portland State's .282. The Vikings totaled a crucial 16 service aces while the Titans had two. The loss moves Fullerton to 0-2 on the season.

The Titans led 4-2 early on, with Traylor scoring three of her seven kills on Fullerton's first three points. A Martinez kill and block assist by Garis and Martinez brought the score to 12-9 for the Vikings later in the set. But it was all Portland State down the stretch, with the Vikings closing set one on a 10-1 run.

After falling behind 12-7 in the second set, the Titans used a 7-0 run with Leilani Lopez at the service line to take a 14-12 advantage. A Garis dump kill and Traylor ace later gave Fullerton a 17-16 lead. But the Vikings scored nine of the set's final 10 points to take a 2-0 match lead.

Fullerton again fell behind early in the third set, 15-6. But the Titans refused to go down easily, as Nia Cummings provided a spark off the bench with a pair of kills to cut Fullerton's deficit to 16-11. Portland State scored the next five, though, and eventually took set three 25-14 to seal the sweep.

The Titans face a quick turnaround as they play Kansas State tomorrow, Sunday, Aug. 27, at 10:30 a.m. PT. The match will be Fullerton's third and final of the Hotel Vance Rose City Showdown in Portland.
