ABILENE, Tex. - Cal State Fullerton (7-2) closed out their weekend at the Wildcat Classic with a reverse sweep (24-26, 20-25, 25-16, 25-23, 15-11) of Prairie View A&M on Saturday morning.
Julia Crawford had the best match of her young career with a career-high 27 kills to go along with 16 digs. Makenzi Abelman also had the best match of her career with 57 assists and 18 digs. Felicia Marshall was huge down the stretch, finishing with 19 kills at 38.5% hit percentage. Savahna Costello held it down once again with 31 digs.
Fullerton took the lead out of the gate and held control for most of the first set. However, Prairie View hung around ultimately taking the first 26-24.
The Titans struggled in the second set falling 25-20 posting a low 14% hit percentage.
Looking to avoid a sweep, Fullerton came out and absolutely dominated the third set. Going on a 12-3 scoring run, they jumped out to an 18-9 lead down the stretch ultimately winning the set 25-16.
The Titans continued the hot run getting the early lead in set number four, but PVAMU battled back into as the teams started to go back and forth. Fullerton kept their composure, grinding out a 25-23 set win to force a fifth and deciding set.
CSF took control of the fifth set right away taking a 4-0 lead right out of the gate and held on easily as they cruised to a 15-10 set win to take the match.
With the victory, Cal State Fullerton has now surpassed their win total from last season picking up their seventh win of the young season.
The Titans will be back in action next weekend at the UC Riverside Classic to wrap up their non-conference schedule.
