FULLERTON, Calif. – Madeline Schneider picked up her 16th double-figure kill performance, but Cal State Fullerton fell 3-0 (16-25, 22-25, 17-25) to UC Santa Barbara, Friday night inside Titan Gym.
Schneider led the Titans (5-23, 1-14 Big West) with a team-high 12 kills, while nearly notching a double-double as she also collected eight digs. Summer Kerins and Katelyn Nielsen each recorded seven kills offensively.
On the defensive end, Savahna Costello led the way with a team-high 16 kills, while senior Shimen Fayad dug out a season-high 15 balls.
Fullerton didn't quite have it offensively to begin the night, as it dropped the opening set 25-16, but the Titans showed resiliency in the second set. They put together most effective attacking set, recording a .255 attack percentage. Unfortunately UC Santa Barbara (8-18, 7-7 Big West) also came through with its most effective offensive set, attacking at a .348 clip. The Gauchos narrowly edged the Titans 25-22 in the set to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
Fullerton then ran out of gas in the third, as UCSB grinded it's way to a 25-17 third set victory to clinch the match.
The Titans will close out the 2017 regular season vs. Big West Champions Cal Poly, tomorrow at 7 pm PT. Fullerton will honor its four seniors before the game, as the group will put on the Titan jersey one last time.
