As the 2017 Cal State Fullerton Women's Volleyball season winds down, FullertonTitans.com honors each one of the four seniors, as they prepare for their final match as a Titan on Saturday at 7 pm PT vs. Cal Poly.

Our first senior has battled a tremendous amount of adversity to get to this point. She's an outside hitter out of Murrieta, California and has logged over 75 matches in her Titan career. It's time to honor Katelyn Nielson.

In addition to her 75 logged matches, she's played in 206 sets is currently just five digs short of 100 for her career. She produced one of her best matches of the season last week vs. Long Beach State, recording 10 kills on the night.

FullertonTitans.com: How has your overall experience been at Cal State Fullerton?

Nielsen: It's definitely been an experience with its highs and its lows, but I wouldn't change it for anything in the world. I've really appreciate the fact that I've been able to play at the Division I level in a conference like the Big West, all while furthering my education at such a great university. I'm definitely going to miss the girls and all of the trips that come with being a Division I athlete.

FullertonTitans.com: What was your favorite road trip while at Cal State Fullerton?

Nielsen: That's hard. We've been everywhere. Hawai'i is obviously always a cool one because it's Hawai'i. This year we went to Towson, Maryland and we got to go to coach Jefferies house. She had this big house on a field and we all got to just lay out there and bond as a team.

FullertonTitans.com: What's the biggest thing you'll miss about Cal State Fullerton?

Nielsen: The people. I'm going to see some of the players again, but being able to be in this gym with this coaching staff, I'm going to miss that. I'm going to miss the grind of being here with all of these people.

FullertonTitans.com: What's the biggest thing you've learned over your four years here?

Nielsen: I've learned how to deal with adversity. I've dealt with a lot of adversity myself this year, overcoming a serious injury and losing is never easy. I didn't have the senior year I was looking to have, but this year has showed me there can be a positive outcome to every little trial you face in life.

FullertonTitans.com: What do you hope to do after you graduate?

Nielsen: I'm going to apply med school and I hope to get my MD. I always joke with our doctor that I'm going to come back and take his job and work for Cal State Fullerton one day.
