LONG BEACH, Calif. – Katelyn Nielson had one her strongest outings of the year, recording a team-best 10 kills, but Long Beach State managed to defeat Fullerton 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-21) Saturday night at the Pyramid.
For Fullerton (5-21, 1-12 Big West), the match marked its final road contest of the season. Nielson strung together her second double-digit kill games of the season to go along with a couple of digs on a .273 attack percentage. Madeline Schneider nearly notched a double-figure kill match, as she ended up with nine and three digs.
Savahna Costello collected a team-best nine digs, while Makenzi Abelman followed with eight to go along with 22 assists. Aniya Henry put together a nice defensive performance with a match-high three solo blocks to go along with two block assists.
Long Beach State (9-19, 6-9 Big West) took advantage of its home court, as it raced out to a quick lead and never looked back, winning the first set 25-16. Fullerton couldn't get the offense going, as it committed a combined 19 errors in the second and third sets combined.
The 49ers handily won the second set 25-14 to go up 2-0 overall. Fullerton battled in the third set, at one point holding a 14-12 advantage, but couldn't keep things going as it fell 25-21 in the third set.
The Titans will finish off the regular season with two final home matches, with the first coming vs. UC Santa Barbara on Friday at 7 pm PT.
