FULLERTON, Calif.--- Four Titans recorded double-digit kills, but Fullerton's rally fell just short, as it dropped a dramatic 3-2 (20-25, 25-20, 25-18, 9-25, 11-15) five-set affair to Drake, Friday night at Titan Gym.
For the Titans (1-1), the defeat gives them a spit on the opening day of the Titan Tournament, while Drake went 2-0.
Madeline Schneider led the Titans for a second consecutive match, as she recorded a match-high equaling 18 kills and 20 digs on the evening. Shimen Fayad also chipped in with 12 kills, while Jayla Norman and Summer Kerins each recorded 10 kills apiece.
Kerins accumulated her 10 kills on just 19 total attacks, while Nastassja Bowman recorded a match-high attack percentage of .545.
Fullerton fell behind early, dropping the opening set 25-20, but the Titans showed resiliency, battling back in the second set. Fullerton practically led the entire way, but it was an Aniya Henry block that really changed the momentum, giving the Titans a 23-19 advantage late.
Fullerton kept its foot on the gas in the third set, recording a dominating attack percentage of .444 and forcing Drake into six errors for an attack percentage of .091. The Titans cruised to a 25-18 third set victory to put them on the brink of 2-0.
However, the Titans just ran out of gas over the final two frames, dropping fourth set and then falling 15-11 in the fifth and deciding set after at one point just trailing 8-7.
Fullerton looks to rebound tomorrow, as it'll take on Bryant at 4:30 pm PT inside Titan Gym.
