FULLERTON, Calif. --- Former SMU setter Nastassja Bowman has transferred to Cal State Fullerton and will join the Titan volleyball program beginning with the 2017-18 academic year, head coach Ashley Preston announced on Wednesday.
"I'm thrilled to coach such a competitive player like Nastassja," said Preston. "She is a lefty setter who enjoys being an offensive threat and loves to give her all every time she steps on the court."
Bowman comes to Fullerton after beginning her collegiate career at Southern Methodist University, where she was a part of a Mustang program that qualified for the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons, including advancing to the second round last year after sweeping in-state rival Texas A&M 3-0.
During the 2016 campaign at SMU, Bowman played in six sets, recorded a kill, 17 assists and nine digs. She redshirted her first year with the Mustangs.
Before SMU, she was a four-year letter winner for coach Diane Heine at Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento, Calif. While there, Bowman collected four all-league selections, was named the San Joaquin Section MVP both her junior and senior years, while also being named to the Sacramento All-City Team in both instances.
The Berkley Calif., native also got it done in the classroom, earning honor roll distinction both her junior and senior seasons. While in high school, she also led the Falcons to a section championship and three league titles.
In addition, Bowman played club volleyball for Five Starz and led the squad to the Colorado Crossroads tournament title. She advanced to the Junior Olympic National Championships twice and was named to the 2014 Junior National Championships All-Tournament team.
While at Fullerton, Bowman will continue to pursue her business degree and reignite a sibling rivalry with her younger sister Paloma Bowman, who will be playing volleyball at UC Davis in the fall.
