Fayad Earns All-Big West Conference Honors

FULLERTON, Calif.  – Cal State Fullerton sophomore outside hitter Shimen Fayad earned Big West Conference Honorable Mention accolades, the conference announced Monday.

The native of Victoria, B.C., led the Titans and ranked ninth in the Big West averaging 3.17 kills per game. In addition, Fayad's 0.27 service aces per set led Fullerton and ranked eighth in the league.

She led Fullerton with 14 double-doubles during the season.

Fayad played in 104 of 106 sets during the year, and finished second on the squad with 302 digs while adding 63 blocks.

She was named Big West Conference Player of the Week on Sept. 26 after recording career highs in kills and digs to help the Titans win their first conference opener in five years. She totaled 27 kills and 22 digs to spearhead Fullerton to a four-set victory over UC Riverside on Sept. 24.

The win over the Highlanders snapped a 19-match Big West Conference losing streak that dated back to Nov. 15, 2014. Fayad, who hit a torrid .390 for the match with just four errors in 59 attempts, became even more productive as the match wore on. She was responsible for 10 of Fullerton's 13 kills, including match point, in the fourth and final set. She hit .769 in that set.

Fayad is the first Titan to earn all-conference honors under the guidance of second-year head coach Ashley Preston.

Cal State Fullerton finished the season with a 6-24 overall record and a 1-15 mark in league play.

Dating back to 1985, the Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball team has totaled 63 all-conference honors.

Nikki Taylor, of 2016 Big West champion Hawai'i, was named the conference Player of the Year, and UH's Dave Shoji was named the Coach of the Year. UC Santa Barbara's Lindsey Ruddins was voted the 2016 Big West Freshman of the Year.
