FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday at the Quality Inn-Placentia Fullerton Classic hosted at Titan Gym.

The Titans (4-6) suffered a 3-1 (25-17, 19-25, 25-22, 25-23) loss to Weber State in the first match of the day, but rebounded with a 3-0 (28-26, 25-16, 25-17) sweep of The Citadel in the evening.

Fullerton closes the tournament at 7:30 p.m., Saturday hosting Colgate. The day begins with Weber State vs. The Citadel at 10 a.m., followed by Air Force vs. Colgate at 12:30 p.m. and Air Force vs. The Citadel at 5 p.m.

Weber State's balanced attack led the Wildcats (4-0) to a 3-1 (25-17, 19-25, 25-22, 25-23) victory over Cal State Fullerton playing in the Quality Inn-Placentia Fullerton Classic hosted at Titan Gym on Friday afternoon.

The trio of Amanda Varley (17 kills, 4 assists, 2 blocks), Megan Gneiting (13 kills) and Rylin Roberts (10 kills, 8 digs, 3 blocks) helped the Wildcats to a .265 hitting percentage as Taylor Christensen drove the offense with 45 assists.

Sophomore Shimen Fayad led the Titans with a double-double of 13 kills and 12 digs, while sophomore Summer Kerins added 12 kills in 19 attempts as the middle blocker posted an attacking clip of .526. Junior Kyra Hill added 11 kills for Fullerton while freshman setter Rachel Hall delivered 28 assists followed by senior Precious Manu with 21 assists.

As a team, Weber State led the match with 55 kills, five service aces and 12 blcoks.

In the fourth and match-clinching set, Fullerton led early, 9-7, before Weber State rallied off 10 consecutive points for a 17-10 lead that the Titans could not overcome. Fullerton closed 24-23 before Roberts' kill decided the third set.

Sophomore outside hitter Madeline Schneider led the Titans (4-6) with 20 kills hitting at a clip of .362 to go along with seven digs as Cal State Fullerton recorded a 3-0 (28-26, 25-16, 25-17) sweep of The Citadel (4-5) on Friday at Titan Gym.

For Schneider, it was her second 20-kill match of the year – the first in the team's season opener.

The Titans totaled 50 kills in the match hitting .313 as a team as freshman setter Rachel Hall delivered a career-best 43 assists in the win.

Fullerton totaled 56 digs led by Shimen Fayad's 20 as the sophomore recorded a double-double with 12 kills as well. Sophomore Kyra Smith totaled one solo block and seven block assists as the team blocked 11 Bulldog attempts.

Sophomore Summer Kerins added 11 kills on 15 attempts.

The Citadel was held to a .149 hitting percentage, but Moriah Smith hammered a match-high 21 kills while Logan Smith totaled 34 assists.

Of Fullerton's four victories in 2016, three have come by way of sweep.
