Titans Add Fayad to 2016 Roster

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball team had another addition to its 2016 roster as outside hitter Shimen Fayad will join the Titans, announced Titans head coach Ashley Preston on Tuesday.

"I am so excited Shimen is a part of the Titans family," Preston said. "She has tremendous athleticism and a high volleyball IQ. She will make an immediate impact for us on the court."

After utilizing a redshirt in 2014, Fayad played in 35 matches, making 31 starts at Wichita State. Fayad was third on the team with 277 kills in 122 sets played, posting a 2.27 per set average. She also tallied 41 service aces and 43 total blocks (11 solo). Her 203 digs were fourth on the Shockers as the redshirt freshman earned a spot on the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team in 2015. She also helped lead the Shockers back to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in the last nine seasons after an absence in 2014. It was the Shockers' ninth trip to the NCAA Tournament all-time.

Fayad was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament Team after posting 25 kills on 57 attempts while committing just six errors, good for a .333 hitting percentage in five-set wins over Northern Iowa and Missouri State. The Victoria, British Columbia-native also tallied seven digs and seven blocks in the two MVC Tournament matches en route to her All-Tournament Team selection.

The 6-foot outside hitter tallied 11 kills, seven digs and one block in the Shockers victory over Kansas State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Wichita State would fall to eventual NCAA National Champion Nebraska in the second round.

In a four-set loss to Missouri State on Oct. 2, Fayad set a career high with 20 kills on a .268 hitting percentage, earning her MVC Freshman of the Week honors.

Overall, Fayad tallied double-digit kills 13 times and collected three double-doubles. She posted a career-high 19 digs on Sept. 10 in a three-set win over South Dakota State.

Fayad was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and has three sisters; Alaia, Thana and Zavien and one brother, Basheer. She graduated from Lambrick Park Secondary School in Victoria, British Columbia and played basketball and ran track along with playing volleyball. She was also a triathlete and a swimmer.

Cal State Fullerton will host the annual Blue/Orange Scrimmage on Aug. 20 before opening the 2016 season at the UT Chattanooga Tournament on Aug. 26.
