Waggoner to Try Out For U.S. National Team

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton's own Mallory Waggoner will try out for the U.S. Women's National Team, USA Volleyball announced on Tuesday.

 

Waggoner will be one of 248 athletes from 106 colleges participating in the tryouts on Feb. 21-23 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Co.

 

The 6-foot right-side hitter from Sarasota, Fla. had a solid freshman campaign with the Titans in 2013. Waggoner played in 54 sets over 23 matches last year and tallied 80 kills and a 1.48 kills per set average. Waggoner posted a .142 kill percentage.

 

On defense, Waggoner had 16 digs, averaging 0.30 per set and also totaled nine blocked shots (three solo). The freshman scored 86 points for the Titans in 2013.

 

Three-time Olympic gold medalist and U.S. Olympic Hall of Famer Karch Kiraly and the U.S. Women's National Team staff will lead the tryout process.

Selected athletes will be informed by early March and USA Volleyball will announce the selections by the end of March once all roster spots are accepted and confirmed.
