Titans Split in First Day of Competition at Showdown

LUBBOCK, Texas – Cal State Fullerton completed its first day of competition at the Lone Star Showdown with a split, opening the tournament with a sweep of Nevada, before falling to Montana in three sets on Friday afternoon at United Spirit Arena.

Competing in its second match of the day, Cal State Fullerton's six-match win streak was snapped in 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 26-24) loss to Montana at United Spirit Arena on Friday afternoon.

 

Playing in the Lone Star Showdown hosted by Texas Tech, Cal State Fullerton (6-3) took the court for the second time on Friday, and struggled offensively in the loss to the Grizzlies (3-5).

 

The Titans, who were swept for the second time this season, attacked at a rate of .113 (42-28-124), hitting under .200 for the third time in 2013 – all three matches have been losses.

 

Montana totaled 11 blocks in the match.

 

Senior Alyse Hensley led Cal State Fullerton with her fourth double-double of the year, totaling 10 kills and 10 digs. 

 

Senior Bre Moreland led Cal State Fullerton in kills (12) and digs (15), to mark her second double-double of 2013.

 

Leah Best added nine kills, and freshman Paige Reed set a new career high with 15 digs.

 

Julie Consani led the offense tallying a match-high 39 assists.

 

Montana attacked at a rate of .230, led by Brooke Bray's 11 kills (.588).

LUBBOCK, Texas – Cal State Fullerton opened play at the Lone Star Showdown by dominating Nevada in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-15) sweep on Friday afternoon at United Spirit Arena.

 Sophomore Holland Crenshaw helped the Titans keep their six-match win streak alive by tying a career high with a match-best 10 kills. Senior Leah Best fell just one short of double digits with nine kills.

 

Senior Alyse Hensley recorded eight kills and 13 digs, while senior Bre Moreland added eight kills and 11 digs. Freshman Paige Reed led the defense with 14 digs.

The Titans hit .212 (45-21-113) as a team, but held Nevada (1-6) to a .044 attacking percentage.

Julie Consani led the Titan offense with 33 assists, and her total of 1,273 career assists ranks ninth in Fullerton all-time history.
