LAS VEGAS – UNLV swept Cal State Fullerton, 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-18), in both programs' 2013 season opener on Friday night at Cox Pavilion as part of the UNLV Invitational.

UNLV's Sekola Falemaka recorded a double-double with a match-high 14 kills while also chipping in 10 digs and a match-best five service aces.

The Rebel offense was executed by Stephanie Thelen, who distributed a match-high 28 assists as UNLV hit at a clip of .238, totaling 41 kills.

In the first set, Fullerton's offense flourished hitting .265 despite the loss, but the Titans could not find that rhythm in the match's final two sets, attacking at rates of .032 (second set) and .086 (third set).

Senior Bre Moreland led Cal State Fullerton with eight kills, while senior transfer Alyse Hensley added six kills and nine digs. Sophomore Holland Crenshaw also added six kills for Fullerton.

The Titans return to action at 10 a.m. Saturday to play Kansas State, and CSF will see its final action of the tournament with a 5 p.m. match against Portland. The Wildcats defeated the Pilots in five sets in the first match of the Invitational on Friday evening. Live stats and live video will be for each of Cal State Fullerton's matches on Saturday.

Notes: UNLV now holds a slim 5-4 edge against Cal State Fullerton in the all-time series…the Titans dropped their season opener for the third year in a row, and hold a 6-6 record in season openers during head coach Carolyn Zimmerman's tenure (2002-present)…the Titans are 18-16 in season openers dating back to 1980...freshman Paige Reed, senior Alyse Hensley, senior Leah Stevens, freshman McKenna Painton, junior Kristen Brandsma, freshman Mallory Waggoner and freshman Faith Rockmore made their respective Titan debuts.
