Neto Voted Big West Player of the Week After Historic Weekend

IRVINE, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton senior Kayla Neto was voted Big West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week after the Titans extended their winning streak to four matches with wins over UC Irvine and Long Beach State last weekend.

On Thursday night, Neto tied a career high with 27 kills in a come-from-behind five-set victory over UC Irvine.

She added 19 digs, a service ace and four blocks while hitting .273 (27-6-77) for the match.

The win over the 49ers on Saturday night at Titan Gym snapped a 59-match, 30-year losing streak to LBSU.

Against the 49ers, the Clarksburg, Calif., native recorded match highs in kills (17) and digs (22) to mark her eighth straight match with a double-double. She swung at a .244 (17-6-45) clip for the contest.

For the week, Neto averaged 4.89 kills, 4.56 digs and 0.44 blocks per set while hitting .262 (44-12-122).

The Titans (10-10, 4-3) are in a three-way tie for third in the Big West standings with UC Santa Barbara and Pacific.

This is Neto's fourth Big West Player of the Week honor in her career at Cal State Fullerton, and the second in 2012, as she previously received the honor on Oct. 1.

CSF returns to the road this weekend, and will play UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. Friday, as the Gauchos and Titans have identical league records of 4-3. CSF will then travel to Cal Poly (1-18, 0-7) for a 7 p.m. match on Saturday.

Others nominated: Sydney Gedryn (Cal State Northridge); Devon Damelio (UC Davis); Aly Squires (UC Irvine); Taylor Formico (UC Santa Barbara); Emily Hartong (Hawai'i)
