Atlanta, Ga. - The offensive efforts of Titan duo Nayla Neto and Bre Moreland lifted Cal State Fullerton to a 3-0 sweep of Southern Methodist Saturday morning at O'Keefe Gymnasium in the morning session of the Georgia Tech Courtyard Invitational.
Twenty-one kills and a dominant .362 attack percentage from Neto and an 18-kill, 15-dig double-double from Moreland lifted the Titans to the 31-29, 25-21, 25-17 victory that evened their season and tournament record at 1-1.
A thrilling first set effort from the Titans set the tone for the rest of the match. SMU led by as much as 6 points at 13-7 and held the lead until Fullerton broke a 19-19 tie with a Brenna Cygan service ace. Neto connected for six of her eight first-set kills down the stretch, including the set-winner.
Carla Armstrong was the only Mustang in double figures in kills, collecting 10 in 35 swings. She, too, had a double-double adding 10 digs to her line. SMU falls to 1-1 on the year.
Fullerton freshman Holland Crenshaw followed up her five-block Titan debut with another five blocks on Saturday. She led the Fullerton squad with four block assists and one solo.
Sophomore Julie Consani set a career high in assists in her first-career full match as a setter. She logged 36 assists along with seven digs, a block and a service ace.
The Titans will wrap up their first weekend of action Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. PT against Charleston Southern.
