April 21, 2006

New York, NY - Cal State Fullerton's Ruya Inalpulat has been selected to the third team for women's tennis in the national balloting for Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine's annual Arthur Ashe, Jr., Sports Scholars Awards.

Inalpulat is a graduating senior from Ankara, Turkey, who played No. 1 or No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Titans this season, compiling a singles record of 10-11 and an 11-9 mark with doubles teammate Gina Le. Inalpulat will be competing next week at the Big West Conference Tennis Championships at Indian Wells.

The Sports Scholars Awards were established in 1992 and are based on scholarship, athleticism and humanitarianism to honor undergraduate students who exemplify the standards set by the late tennis great Arthur Ashe, Jr. Minimum qualifications include at least a 3.20 grade point average and an active profile on campus and/or in the community. Approximately 600 male and female student-athletes were nominated. Point guard Sarah Lowe of Florida was the overall winner as Female Sports Scholar of the Year.

All of the award winners were listed in the April 6 issue of the magazine.
