Oct. 23, 2010

SAN DIEGO, CA - Cal State Fullerton freshman Morgan McIntosh won both of her matches on Saturday to remain alive and advance to the fourth round of the consolation bracket at the 2010 ITA West Regionals hosted by San Diego State.

Play resumes on Saturday morning as the Titans' rookie will take on UCLA's Carling Seguso at 8:30 a.m. in her first match of the day. With a victory, McIntosh would face either Long Beach State's Deborah Armstrong or UC Irvine's Courtney Byron at 1 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

McIntosh opened consolation bracket play with a straight-set win over LMU's Adriana Radinovic, 6-2, 6-3, and followed that with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-7, victory over UC Irvine's Rebecca Kwan.

Sophomore Malorie dela Cruz, who posted a main draw win on Thursday before falling in the second round, won her first consolation bracket match over UCLA's Morgan Thomas, 7-6 (8), 6-1, following a first-round bye, but fell to Magdalena Ploch of Hawaii in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, in the third round. Ploch earlier posted a straight-set win (6-0, 6-2) over another Titan, freshman Megan Sandford, to advance.

In other consolation singles play, sophomore Tiffany Mai fell to UC Irvine's Kristina Smith (6-2, 6-2) in the second round.

The Fullerton doubles team of Mai and McIntosh fell to San Diego State's Alicia Aguilar and Julia Wais, 8-5, in the main draw after a first round bye to end their run. The duo of dela Cruz and Sandford will take on Pepperdine's Megan Moore and Andrea Oates at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Complete draws will be posted, when available, on San Diego State's official athletics website at GoAztecs.com.
