Cal Poly, Long Beach State Dominant in Day Two at Fall Intercollegiates

FULLERTON, CA - Cal Poly and Long Beach State dominated play at day two of the Cal State Fullerton Fall Intercollegiate tournament, advancing two singles players each to Sunday's semifinals.

Teammates will battle one another for berths in the championship match as top-seeded Hannah Grady will battle her 49ers teammate Deborah Armstrong while the Mustangs' Brittany Blalock, the No. 2 seed, and Steffi Wong, the No. 7 seed, will lock horns.

Singles semifinals will be played at 9 a.m. with the championship match contested at 12:30 p.m.

In doubles play, the top four seeds held strong, all advancing to Sunday's semifinal matches.

Cal Poly's top-seeded duo of Blalock and Wong will meet Long Beach State's team of Armstrong and Jessica Weeks in one semifinal while the second-seeded team of Grady and Stephanie Bengson will meet Cal State Northridge's duo of Kanykey Koichumanova and Brooke Doane.

The doubles semifinals will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the championship to be decided at 2:30 p.m.

Fullerton freshman Erin Wiesener, the lone Titan singles player alive on day two, was eliminated in the third round after defaulting her match to Cal State Northridge's Kristy Fournell.

The Titans' doubles duo of Karina Akhmedova and Jerusha Cruz fell in the second round on Saturday to the Matadors' Fournell and Whitney Paluch, 8-3. The team of Wiesener and Ashley Litchfield, who advanced to the second round after a default on Friday, defaulted their second-round match to UC Riverside's Erynne Oki and Roxanne Plata.
