FULLERTON, CA - With darkness approaching, Shelly Injejikian finished off her comeback win over Kelley Fox to secure the 4-1 victory for Cal State Fullerton (1-3, 0-1) over Chapman University (0-1) Thursday on Titan Courts.

The Titans pulled off their first win of the season thanks to three hard fought doubles performances. Leslie Bullock and Injejikian defeated Elizabeth Lewis and Fox 8-6 in the No. 1 doubles position. In the two spot, the team of Brandy Andrews and Jaycee Cruz won by the same 8-6 score over their opponents Sheehan Trippel and Manon Pochet. The team of Karina Akhmedova and Kathleen Doran won easily in the No. 3 spot, cruising to an 8-2 victory over Roxanne Kaiden and Cassidy Sirois.

Andrews and Cruz had a much easier time in their singles matches. Andrews cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Trippel while Cruz made quick work of Kaiden 6-1, 6-1.

With the Titans only one win away from clinching the match, their first team win seamed certain. But after first set losses by Bullock, Injejikian and Akhmedova, the door was still open for a Chapman comeback.

Just as quickly though, all three battled back, each winning their second set to force a third. Injejikian was the first to close out her second set. After going down 3-6 in the first, Injejikian bounced back to win by a comfortable 6-2 margin in the second. She equaled that performance in the third set and and finished off her match with another 6-2 win.

By the time Injejikian closed out her match the darkness had begun to overtake Titan Courts. With the match in hand, Bullock's and Akhmedova's matches were called and they received DNF's for their valiant efforts.

The Titans take the court next against Big West Conference rival UC Davis, Saturday Feb. 14, at 12 p.m. on Titan Courts.
