FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton junior Monica Rodriguez claimed the Titans' only point with a singles win at the No. 3 spot, but visiting Cal State Northridge took home the 6-1 victory in the Big West Conference opener for both teams on Sunday afternoon at the Titan Tennis Courts.

The loss dropped Fullerton to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in league play while the No. 66 Matadors improved to 2-2 overall, and 1-0 in conference.

Northridge opened with a dominating doubles sweep, including an 8-0 shutout by Nigora Sirojiddinova and Anna Yang at the No. 2 position.

The Matadors then wrapped up the win by taking four of the six singles matches in straight sets. Rodriguez spoiled Northridge's bid for a shutout with a 10-8 tiebreaker win after splitting the first two sets, 7-6, 4-6.

Freshman Kalika Slevcove saw her bid for a second Fullerton point go down in a tiebreaker, 10-8, after winning the first set against Maria Pistalu, 6-4, before the Matador responded with a 6-1 win in the second set at the No. 4 spot.

With a week inbetween matches, the Titans return to the court on Sunday (Feb. 12) at 10 a.m., hosting Gonzaga in the third of seven-consecutive matches at the Titan Tennis Courts in the month of February.
