Riverside, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Women's Tennis bounced back in a big way on Saturday afternoon, sweeping UC Riverside 4-0 to open Big West Conference play.
In singles play, Natalie Duffy, Eira Tobrand, Juliette Daries, Mariia Nikitash, YuSeung Suh, and Indya Nespor were in action. In doubles play Duffy and Suh paired up, Garcia and Tobrand teamed up, and Taylor and Daries paired up.
The Titans set the tone early in doubles play, and took all three doubles matches against the Highlanders. Garcia and Tobrand cruised through their doubles match, only dropping a single game, and ran out 6-1 winners. Duffy and Suh followed that up with a gutsy 6-4 win on court one to clinch the doubles point for the Titans, while Taylor and Daries completed the sweep, winning 6-4 on court three.
Fullerton would follow up doubles play with a dominant display in singles, with each Titans win coming in straight sets. Duffy continued her solid weekend with a 6-1, 6-2 straight sets win on court one to give the Titans a 2-0 lead.
Nikitash continued the trend for the Titans on court five, where she earned another straight-sets win for the Titans, winning 6-1, 6-1, and giving the Titans a 3-0 lead. Daries clinched the win for Fullerton in dominant fashion, with their third singles straight sets win of the day, 6-2, 6-1, clinching the 4-0 sweep for the Titans.
Tobrand, Suh and Nespor were all up in their singles matches before the match was clinched by Nikitash. The Titans only dropped one singles set across all six singles matches on Saturday.
