Titans Travel to Hawai'i for Pair of Matches

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's tennis sets off to Hawai'i to face off against Pacific University, on Thursday and conference rival Hawai'i on Saturday.

First, serve against Pacific is set for 1 p.m. PT.

OPPONENTS AND HISTORY

March 15 | 1:00 p.m. PT | UH Tennis Complex | Honolulu, O'ahu

The Tigers are currently 2-4 for the season and have lost the past four matches. In last year's meeting against Pacific, Fullerton won 6-1.

Pacific leads the all-time series 12-3 since 2000, but the Titans have won the last three matches.

The Rainbow Wahine are currently 5-3 (2-1) for the season. Hawai'i is tied for third in the Big West. The last time these two teams met was in the Big West Championship Semifinal where the Rainbow Wahine defeated the Titans 4-1.

With the loss, Fullerton ended its season with a 19-4 record, the best winning percentage (.826) and total number of wins in program history. Fullerton scored its lone point of the match when Nuno recovered from a first-set loss to defeat Roxanne Resma, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 in the lineup.

MAKING A MARK
Fullerton now has two players who remain undefeated at their defending courts.

Genevieve Zeidan has managed to hold down singles court number two with an impressive 10-0 overall record. Karla Portalatin keeps court number three to herself with an overall record of 9-0.

The women ride an impressive 12 match win streak.  

HOME SWEET HOME
This season has proved that at home, the Titans are unstoppable. At the Titan Tennis Courts,  Cal State Fullerton is 8-0.

SETTING A STREAK
After a busy week of hosting, Cal State Fullerton successfully won all three of their matches, advancing to a six-game win streak. The Titans have shut out five opponents this year. Fullerton leads the Big West Conference with an outstanding win percentage of .857.

CONFERENCE COMPETITION
Fullerton opened conference play with a dominant 6-1 win over UC Riverside on Feb. 3. The Titans capitalized and swept the doubles matches to earn the point to put the Titans in the lead and then proceeded to take five of the six singles matches.  The Titans continued their conference hot streak with a 4-0 win over CSUN on Feb. 16.

SISTER ACT
The Titans' season opener (1/18) marked the beginning of a new era for the Valenzuela sisters. Alexis Valenzuela returned to the courts as the new volunteer coach, while sister, Taylor, embarked on her first match as a Titan.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
Cal State Fullerton welcomed five incoming freshmen for the 2017-18 campaign, Caisey Lee Emery, Jadie Acidera, Tiani Jadulang, Taylor Valenzuela and Genevieve Zeidan. The group was ranked the ninth-best incoming class among mid-majors according to TennisRecruiting.net.

IN THE RANKINGS
Freshman Genevieve Zeidan continues to lead the charge for the Titans, she is currently a stellar 23-2 overall in singles play and 13-1 in dual match play. She is currently riding a phenomenal 12-match win streak. Zeidan spent four months in the rankings going from No.103 to No. 97.

FULLERTON'S DYNAMIC DUO
Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin are starting to come on strong for the Titans. The tandem is currently 18-4 overall in doubles play and 9-3 on court one in dual match action.

ABOUT DIANNE MATIAS
Matias enters her fifth year with the Titan Tennis program. She owns an overall coaching record of 73-54 and 66-39 mark while with Fullerton. She was named the Big West Conference Coach of the Year in 2016.
