NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- For the 18th time this season, Cal State Fullerton won the doubles point as the Titans went on to three singles victories in a 4-0 defeat of CSUN at the Matador Tennis Complex on Saturday.
The win is Fullerton's 17th of the season as the Titans (17-2) have now matched the program record for victories in a single season which was set last year. The Titans also improve to 5-2 in the Big West Conference, as CSUN drops to 9-11 overall and 3-5 in league play.
Sophomore Masako Makiba and junior Danielle Pham picked up the first win of the afternoon for the Titans, defeating Arpe Bagumyan and Samantha Judan, 6-1, at No. 3 doubles.
Seniors Camille De Leon and Alexis Valenzuela clinched the doubles point for Fullerton winning their 12th straight match with a 6-3 victory over Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei at the top of the order.
Sophomore Sarah Nuno swept Vivian Lin, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles to give Fullerton a 2-0 lead as she is now 11-5 on the year.
Makiba put the Titans ahead 3-0 at No. 5 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Elisaveta Nosenko.
De Leon clinched the win for Fullerton scoring the fourth point by edging Skyla Alcon, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.
The Titans' regular season concludes next week as Fullerton travels to San Jose State on Thursday before hosting Hawai'i in the regular season finale at 11 a.m., Sunday, April 23, at Titan Tennis Courts.
Notes: Cal State Fullerton has not lost the doubles point this season…Fullerton's 17 victories tie last season's program record 17 wins.
