FULLERTON, Calif. --- On a program-record 11-match win streak, Cal State Fullerton will host Long Beach State at 1:30 p.m., Friday, at Titan Tennis Courts in Big West Conference action. Admission is free.

 

The Titans (11-0, 2-0 BWC) currently sit at second in the league standings, trailing Hawai'i (4-0). LBSU is third in the conference standings.

NEWS & NOTES
Last week, Cal State Fullerton extended its program-record win streak to 11 matches after a 5-2 victory at UC Irvine on Thursday and a 6-1 win over Seton Hall on Sunday.


Senior Alexis Valenzuela remains unbeaten at 9-0 in singles play, and is now 49-14 in her dual match singles career.


Fellow senior Camille De Leon is 7-1 in singles action, and boasts a career singles mark of 49-26 at Fullerton.


As a group, the Titans singles record is 47-11 (.810) in 2017, and Fullerton's doubles record is 22-6 (.786).

Fullerton has yet to lose the doubles point this season.

In addition, sophomore Sarah Nuno enters the week on a nine-match win streak, while junior Danielle Pham is 8-3 on the year and sophomore Karla Portalatin is 8-2.

 

In doubles play the team of Nuno and Portalatin (9-1) has won six in a row, while the team of De Leon and Valenzuela (8-1) has won five straight matches.

 

OPPONENTS
Dating back to 2000, Long Beach State has won 22 consecutive matches against Cal State Fullerton. The 49ers (7-2, 3-1 BWC) have played five like opponents of Cal State Fullerton this season with victories over UC Riverside, San Diego State, San Francisco and UC Irvine and a loss to Loyola Marymount.

AWARD SEASON
Senior Alexis Valenzuela has been voted the Big West Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week five times during her career and two times in 2017.

Most recently the West Covina, Calif., native earned the honor after going 2-0 in singles action and 2-0 in doubles play in wins against UC Irvine (5-2) and Seton Hall (6-1).

In addition, she posted three singles victories as the Titans swept UC San Diego, the No. 13-ranked team in Division II, as well as San Diego State (4-0) and San Diego (4-3) on the road in the second week of the season.

Cal State Fullerton sophomore Sarah Nuno went a combined 3-0 in singles and doubles play to earn the Big West Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week award, it was announced by the league on Feb. 8.

Nuno overcame a first set loss to Joselyn Treyes Albar, but rebounded to win the match against her Dons counterpart, prevailing 6-7 (5), 6-0, 6-3.

Against Santa Clara, she blanked Zeina El Tawil, 6-0, 6-0.  She helped the Titans capture the doubles point with Portalatin, as the duo took care of El Tawil and Nabila Farah, 6-2. 

The athlete of the week award was the first for Nuno during her Titan career.
