IRVINE, Calif. --- Cal State Fullerton senior Alexis Valenzuela earned her second Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week accolade after helping the Titans extend their school record win streak to 11 straight.
Off to the best start in school history at 11-0, the Titans received two wins from Valenzuela, who improved to 9-0 in singles this season. She helped the Titans defeat Big West foe UC Irvine, 5-2, as Valenzuela topped Constance Branstine, 6-3, 6-3. She also dispatched Seton Hall's Luize Strike, 7-5, 6-1, in a 6-1 team win.
At No. 1 doubles with partner Camille De Leon, Valenzuela went 2-0, including a marathon battle against the Anteater tandem of Constance Branstine and Stephanie Hazell that end in a 7-6 (10) triumph. The pair is 8-1on the season and on a five-match win streak.
This is the third time this year a Titan has been named Athlete of the Week. It is also the fifth time in her career that Valenzuela has garnered the award.
Cal State Fullerton hosts Long Beach State at 1:30 p.m., Friday at Titan Tennis Courts, followed by another home match at 11 a.m., Sunday, welcoming UTEP. Admission to Titan Tennis Courts is free.
