NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Sophomores Masako Makiba and Luxizi Meng each advanced to their respective finals with two wins apiece on Saturday at the Matador Collegiate Invitational.
Makiba, playing in the Singles B winner's bracket, came from behind to defeat Long Beach State's Natalia Munoz, 1 -6, 7-6, 6-2. The Matsumoto City native was then victorious, 6-3, 6-4, over Utah State's Maggie O'Meara to reach Sunday's finale.
Makiba will play CSUN's Emma Roenholt at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow.
On the consolation side of the bracket, Meng handled UC Riverside's Tracy Van, 6-2, 6-1, and then defeated UCR's Sara Khattab, 6-4, 6-1.
Meng will play CSUN's Kristen Poei in Sunday's Singles B consolation final.
In addition, the doubles team reached the Double B consolation final with an 8-5 victory over the team of Abby Bacharach and Seriana Saltzen from Cal Poly.
The pair will play Loyola Marymount's Siobhan Anderson and Julia Norlin at 9 a.m. Sunday.
