De Leon and Valenzuela Earn Preseason Ranking; Qualify for All-America Championships

RANKINGS/ALL-AMERICAN SELECTIONS

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis doubles team of Camille De Leon and Alexis Valenzuela was rated 31st in the nation by the 2016 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Women's Division I Preseason Rankings it was announced on Tuesday.

In addition, the senior duo was also selected to participate in the 2016 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships, which will be hosted by the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., for the 33rd straight year. The tournament kicks off with pre-qualifying matches starting on Oct. 1, while the main draw runs Oct. 6-9.

"The ITA-All American Championship is one of the toughest and most prestigious tournaments in the nation for which to qualify," fourth-year Cal State Fullerton women's tennis head coach Dianne Matias said.  "I believe this is the first time anyone in our program has been selected to compete in this tournament, and we are honored for the the opportunity for Lexi and Camille to play in the doubles qualifying draw. They will compete against some of the top players in the nation and we are excited to see how they measure up."

In 2016, De Leon and Valenzuela were the first No. 1 Titan doubles team to reach 14 dual victories and six Big West Conference victories since prior to 2001.

The team of De Leon and Valenzuela (14-2, 6-1 BWC) was just the second Titan team in program history to receive Big West Conference First Team accolades following Roseanne Alva and Kelli Moore in 1991.

De Leon and Valenzuela finished 2016 ranked 56th in the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Women's Rankings for doubles and ninth in the Southwest Region.

Last season was the first time De Leon and Valenzuela paired together for doubles play.

In singles action, Valenzuela, a three-time Big West Conference Singles First Team selection, has a career singles record of 40-14. De Leon, a three-time Big West doubles honoree, boasts a career singles mark of 42-25.

The Titans' 2016 fall season will begin Oct. 1, at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships.
