SAN DIEGO – The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team made history Saturday afternoon, recording the program's first victory over San Diego State in the all-time series as the Titans scored a 5-2 win at Aztec Tennis Center.

With the win, Fullerton improves to an undefeated 2-0 on the season, while SDSU drops to 1-1.
The Titans and Aztecs have played 30 times in the history of the series, including 12 consecutive seasons dating back to 2005.
 
For the second straight match in 2016, Fullerton was able to win the first point by taking 2-of-3 doubles matches. At the top of the lineup, CSF juniors and co-captains Camille De Leon and Alexis Valenzuela defeated Isabelle Hoorn and Taylor Lederman, 6-4.
CSF's freshman combination of Masako Makiba and Karla Portalatin then overpowered SDSU's Kennedy Davis and Paola Diazde Regules, 6-3.
In singles play, De Leon improved to 2-0 on the year with a two-set, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Diazde Regules at No. 3 in the lineup, while Valenzuela dispatched Davis 6-4, 6-1 at the top of the order.
With Fullerton leading 3-0, Lederman edged Makiba 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 for the Aztecs first point of the match, but Fullerton sophomore Danielle Pham clinched the winning point at No. 6 with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Olivia Larsson.
Portalatin also improved to 2-0 defeating Dora Somoracz 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 at the fifth spot in the lineup.
Cal State Fullerton concludes its first week of play at 11 a.m. on Sunday at San Diego.
