Titans to Honor Reynolds on Sunday

FULLERTON, Calif. – Prior to the start of Sunday's baseball game against Long Beach State, women's tennis head coach Bill Reynolds will be honored for his 24 years of service to the Cal State Fullerton Athletic Department.

Reynolds, the 2013 Big West Women's Tennis Co-Coach of the Year, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the 1:00 p.m. start time at Goodwin Field, as Fullerton honors the coach who is set to retire following the 2012-13 academic year.

Reynolds ends his career after completing one of the most successful seasons in his 24-year tenure.

Fullerton finished the year with 11 wins – the most for the program since 2004 as he completed his 24-year career with 178 career wins.

In addition, Fullerton's four league victories in 2013 represent CSF's highest total since the Big West began round-robin play in 2006.  Reynolds guided the Titans to the fifth seed in the 2013 Big West Tournament, the program's highest designation in the bracket since the beginning of round-robin play.

Reynolds' first season at Fullerton was in 1990, and in his 24 years, he has coached eight all-Big West second team selections, five all-Big West honorable mention picks, one all-Big West first team doubles tandem, nine all-Big West second team doubles squads, four all-Big West honorable mention doubles teams as well as four Big West Conference Players of the Week.

One of eight tennis-playing siblings and the son of the former head tennis coach and dean of students at UC Santa Barbara, Reynolds achieved a USTA national ranking in the juniors, played at Santa Barbara High School and UCSB. After competing in several professional tournaments, Reynolds returned to UCSB for graduate school and the eventual beginning of his coaching career.

Among his many former teaching positions, Reynolds served as head pro/tennis director at the Manhattan Beach Country Club, and as Assistant Pro at the Jack Kramer Club in Palos Verdes, Calif.

Prior to Cal State Fullerton, Reynolds served as assistant coach for the men's team at UC Irvine. During his stint at UCI, the men's team achieved a national ranking of No. 2 and reached the semi-finals of the NCAA tournament.

Along with his duties as head coach at Cal State Fullerton, Reynolds served as a Competition Training Center coach (Orange County) for the USTA Player Development Program for 15 years (ending in 2011) and has coached several SCTA teams at National Zonal Team Championships. He is on the Professional Advisory Staff for Wilson Sporting Goods and also served on the ITA/NCAA West Region Ranking Committee.
